Election Day — Tuesday

Vote Centers accept voters from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3rd. Bring a valid form of ID. As long as you are in line by 7:00 p.m., you are entitled to vote.

STEP BY STEP

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU VOTE

Confirm your registration

Verify that your name, address, and polling location are current. You must be registered at least 30 days before Election Day.

Know what's on your ballot

Visit the "What's on my Ballot?" page and enter your name or address to see every contest and candidate you are eligible to vote on.

Bring handwritten notes or a printed sample ballot

You may bring notes or a printed sample ballot into the voting booth. Just be sure to take it with you when you leave.

Arrive at your Vote Center

Bring a valid photo ID. If you are in line by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, you have the right to vote — poll workers cannot turn you away.

The deadline to apply for a mail ballot is October 23. Download the application, fill it out, and mail it to the HCDP office before the deadline.

Voter Protection & Legal Redress

Every eligible voter has the right to cast their ballot free from harassment or intimidation. If you encounter any issues at the polls, report them immediately.

Call and ask to be transferred to Voter Protection if you are experiencing harassment, intimidation, or other issues at the polls.

What counts as voter intimidation or harassment?

Voter intimidation includes threats, physical obstruction, false information about election rules, and aggressive questioning of your qualifications to vote. Any such conduct should be reported to the HCDP Hotline at (713) 802-0085 immediately.

What ID do I need to bring to the polls?

Texas requires a valid photo ID such as a Texas Driver License, Personal ID Card, Handgun License, Military ID, U.S. Passport, or Citizenship Certificate with photo. If you do not have an acceptable ID, you may be able to cast a provisional ballot.

What if I am in line when the polls close?

If you are in line at your Vote Center by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, you are entitled to vote. Poll workers cannot turn you away once you are in line before closing time.

How do I report potential voter suppression?

Call the HCDP Voter Protection Hotline at (713) 802-0085 and ask to be transferred to Voter Protection. You may also submit a Legal Redress Police Complaint Form to document the incident for official review.
